As a uk cat i have always had an afinity with detroit (thru the music) im from east london and some of the descriptions i've heard about your great city sounds like where i grew up (to a point) derrick, jaun, kevin and carl are all heros of mine i hope one day to get over there and see with my own eyes what detroit is really like.what i never understood was why you guys (americans) didnt get techno at first its my understanding they were unknown at home for ages. (i guess you overlook whats infront of you sometimes)the music that came from detroit spawned so much great music and so many sub genres and that tradition still caries on today (check out d&b and dubstep)anyway what im trying to say is the show was exellent and miss copeland was right we are out here and we are listening (very closley)
many thanks steve boyle (original uk jungalist) from renk records
london (east london to be precise)

Re: Akai MPC 4000 : The Start Of The Storm

I think the 5000 is going to be huge.. It's agony, death by slow gear lust....

I hope your own project is making some headway too, its defintely hard the way things are at the moment. No question about that. There are thousands of ebooks, guides out there, it is a very big way for people to make money (leech off you) on the internet, EVEN if what is in that book isn't that great.

You will find the marketing and the sales letter are very long, and are designed to hit certain triggers to make you buy it. (scarce, limited)

The product is usually thought of AFTER the campaign has been built. There is a lot of bull written about how indie artists can make it on their own, usually by people who profit from it. There is also usually something else going on that you don't hear about, good management, promo, connections etc.

So take what you read with a pinch of salt, if it smells bad it probably is.
Look at how much time in hours you spend doing promo on the web, is it worth it? What's the return on your time? If you're not getting results it has to change, believe me I've read and tried many things, buts what's nuts is sending out demos still actually works and some labels still have better marketing skills and fan bases than I will ever build on my own.

Re: Ron Murphy - Detroit’s Master Engineer Passes On

Per the family of Ron Murphy, I am forwarding the funeral arrangements to those who knew and loved him...

Memorial services will be held on SATURDAY, Jan 26 2008 at SANTEIU FUNERAL HOME
1139 Inkster Road,
Garden City, Michigan 48135
Services are open to the public from 6 pm - 9 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation.

An official page has been set up for the Ron Murphy Memorial Fund. You can make your donation (via PayPal or credit card) by visiting http://www.wallshaker.com/r...

All donations will be forwarded directly to the family of Ron Murphy to help pay for expenses, etc. If you cannot make it to the funeral, or aren't in the area, I strongly urge you to show your support and donate to the Ron Murphy Memorial Fund.

Like many people in this music industry, Ron had no insurance. As this is a VERY trying time for the family, the very least we can do is give a little to support the man who has done SO MUCH for Detroit's music scene.

Much love and respect,
Aaron-Carl

Re: No Hope, No Love, Only underground

Cheers Caylikins, keep on walking in the shadows... it's the only place to be...

Paul
The Ghost That Walks

Re: No Hope, No Love, Only underground

cooooolll songgg!!!!!!!!!!! me & my friend like itttt

Re: Mad Mike: History of Underground Resistance radio Interview

Wow, thanks for these.
